Dramatists and people who love them are invited to take part in one or more events at the inaugural Victory Harvest week at City Lit, June 19 - 25. Workshops, readings, and brainstorming sessions about how to improve the creation of new plays. Oh, and all of the events are FREE, except the concluding reception on Sunday, June 25, which will take place at a nearby restaurant TBA and will be order off the menu and pay your own tab.
Entertainment attorney, playwright and producer Charles Grippo presents this seminar on the ins and outs of playwrights and other artists producing their own projects.
Monday, June 19, 7 pm
Members and potential members can attend this meeting of the Dramatists Guild Chicago Region.
Conducted by Dramatists Guild Council Member, Jeffrey Sweet, this event will focus on what writers can do to be more proactive in getting their works up. Playwrights will be welcome to contribute their thoughts from experience.
Tuesday, June 20 7 pm.
Join Jeffrey Sweet , David Pasquesi, T.J. Jagodowski, Mick Napier, and Susan Messing as they explore how playwrights can use improv to create plays. You'll learn techniques you can apply to your own works.
Wednesday, June 21, 7 pm.
Fantastic opportunity for playwrights and directors to connect. Directors can tell playwrights what kinds of scripts they are looking for. And playwrights can meet potential directors who might be interested in their works. Special Guest: Austin Tichenor.
Thursday June 22 7 pm
"Kathrina D. RiChard's play asks the question: When does the American Dream become a nightmare? Set against the backdrop of 1950's Cold War Era Chicago, Willie, newly arrived as a result of the Great Migration, sets out on a journey to get an elusive piece of the American Pie, willing to risk everything for just a taste."
Friday, June 23, 7 pm.
Join us for a reading of Jeffrey Sweet's play RAPPACCINI'S PIZZA, directed by Terry McCabe. " A young woman is torn between an aunt who behaves like a mother and a mother who behaves like the aunt a good mother wishes you wouldn't spend too much time with. "
Saturday, June 24 at 7 pm.
Playwrights will have the opportunity to present 5 minute pitches of a single work to potential supporters in the audience. If you love playwrights and want to help them get their plays up, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss
Sunday, July 25, 2 pm.
Immediately following "Pitchfest" we'll adjourn to a nearby restaurant TBA for some nourishment , drink, and further networking. All who have attended any of the events will be welcome. *Reception will be off the menu and revelers will pay their own tab.
